Moreira (Maia) is a Portuguese Parish and Village of the municipality of Maia, with 8.75 km² area and 12 890 inhabitants (2011) . Its population density is 1 473.1 inhab / km².
In this parish, in place of Pedras Rubras, is the Porto International Airport, called Francisco Sá Carneiro or, by virtue of the place where it is located, Pedras Rubras.
Story; The Parish of Moreira is, without a doubt, one of the most historical and oldest in the region between Douro and Ave, that is, "da Mui Antiga Terra da Maia". Indeed, Moreira, the "Villa Moraria", as referred to by the notaries of the Middle Ages, appears for the first time safely referred to in documents from the early 10th century, that is, almost two centuries before the birth of Portugal.
Moreira came to camp the army of D. Pedro IV, landed in Pampelido, in 1832, in a place of the place of Pedras Rubras still called, by this circumstance, "Liberator Army Square". Moreira was thus the land of mainland Portugal where, for the first time, camped the Liberal Army, which marching over Porto, would start the Civil War which would result in the Contitutional Regime that would last until the Implantation of the Republic.
The village of Moreira is today one of the most progressive parishes of the Municipality of Maia. Crossed by excellent communication routes, highlighting the EN13, IC24 and the Porto Metro lines: Dragão-Póvoa de Varzim Stadium (Line B) and Campanhã- Ismai (Line C), and has, inserted in the its geographical area, the largest industrial zone in the country.
